Support / Installation / Flat Front (FF)

The FT7 Series Flat Front wind sensor is designed for quick and easy installation against a metal bar and is most commonly used in wind turbine control.

The sensor has sufficient heating capacity to heat the metal bar. This prevents ice from building up on the bar and blocking the air flow through the sensor during heavy icing events. The metal bar needs to have a thermal conductivity of greater than 120 W/mK to ensure sufficient heat transfer from the sensor.

The diagram below shows the installation on top of a wind turbine nacelle. The alignment of the bar allows the sensor to be repeatedly aligned to the central axis of the turbine without error.
